National Consumer Protection Week from the DBPR

Do you know that our State tries to protect us in many ways?  Do you know that Unlicensed professional activity is a crime in our State?   Are you protected?  Go to the tag links below to find out.

This is National Consumer Protection Week and the Department of Business and Professional Regulations is reminding us to protect ourselves.  The following is a short copy of their Customer Service Spotlight article.  To view the complete article click on the 'DBPR Encourages Consumers to Protect Themselves' in the IMPORTANT NEWS section of their website.

National Consumer Protection Week

This week marks the 10th annual National Consumer Protection Week, March 2-8, 2008, and DBPR would like to remind Floridians to protect themselves by working only with state-licensed professionals. Before hiring a business or professional, consumers should check licenses, check references and use the resources available on this site.

If you aren't taken directly to their website, select the DBPR Home Page from the list that appears.  You may also verify a license by calling them directly at 850-487-1395.

Like to play Texas Hold'em? Me too!

While being back out in the field and meeting my customers, I have discovered that some of you like to play Texas Hold 'em; a game I truly love to play!  My ultimate goal is to win a gold World Poker Tournament bracelet!  I'm told 'practice makes perfect' so I practice at the Naples Ft. Myers Greyhound track in Bonita.  I'd love to hear from any poker fans out there...drop me a line from here!

Want to know if someone is licensed?

There are many 'gypsies' in all fields of service.  If you'd like to see who is licensed and who is not you can do this from the www.myflorida.com website.  Simply click on the Licensee Search button.  This takes you to the DBPR (Depart of Business & Professional Regulation) on-line services.  By selecting the Construction Qualified Business section you can verify many types of licenses.  You can verify their license by name, company name, license number and license type.   We are constantly reminded by our government to hire licensed contractors to protect ourselves and our investments.  Go ahead ... check it out!

I have also found the the DBPR weekly e-Newsletter, The Bottom Line, to contain valuable information in their Newsletter.  You too can sign up to receive this e-Newsletter and stay on top of what's happening in your community!

Do you have a question or comment regarding licensed contractors?  Ask me from here  and I'll do my best to get an answer for you.
